The Making of The Name

Originating from inside Karl Elsener's cutler workshop in 1884, Victorinox stands for quality, functionality, innovation & iconic design & has done so for more than 130 years! Victorinox comes from Karl's mother's name Victoria & inox, the international term for stainless steel. Combining the two words "Victoria" & "Inox" gives the name of the company & brand today - Victorinox.

Swiss Army Knife

In 1891, Karl Elsener delivered the first major supply of 'soldiers knives' to the Swiss Army. The term 'Swiss Army Knife' was coined by American soldiers after World War II due to the difficulty in pronouncing its German name. By 1945, the Swiss Army Knife becomes known all over the world. US soldiers buy it in large quantities & it becomes a popular souvenir to take home.
